Suggestions for improvements are welcome! I'm just 1 person setting things up and doing what seems the most logical and accessible to me, but I know there's better ways to do things that I haven't thought of --Mynn (talk) 23:11, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

General guidelines for how articles on the 1000xRESIST Wiki are being formatted. The guidelines are loose, do whatever if it makes things flow/look better, or if you're just tired/not feeling up to it – it's better to have Some Text down than nothing. These guidelines are just here to help maintain consistency across the wiki, and cut down on decision paralysis.

Writing[edit | edit source]

Grammar[edit | edit source]

  • Canadian English is preferred as that's what is used in the game, but other forms of English is ok too if that's what you're more confident writing in.

  • Use active voice, keep things direct and concise.

  • Use present-tense relative to the pov chronology. the "present" is whenever the point in the story youre talking about is.
    • present-tense ex: "Watcher stabs Iris from behind with a shard of Secretary, fatally wounding her." (by CHSN)

  • Use past-tense when referring to an event that happened in the past, ie. events that happen before the player is placed in the world
    • past-tense ex: "Iris was born in Canada on August 14th, 2029" (by CHSN)

Wiki Formatting[edit | edit source]

  • While we prefer to keep spoiler information below a spoiler warning box, sometimes the spoiler information is central to a character and goes in the general section where most people might check, for example in the AKA sections. For a spoiler censor like BOO! πŸ‘» do this: TEXT GOES HERE
  • Link keywords to their relevant pages the first time it comes up in a section. Shortcut: select the word and press CTRL+K

Word Choice[edit | edit source]

  • on whether to use "Occupant" or "Keeper" on a page – use whatever the character would call them.
    • if its a non-character page...fuck man i dunno yet come back to me later
  • Given we never know what exactly caused the Occupant Alert in Chapter 4, it's preferable to use "Occupant Alert" to refer to the incidant rather than "Occupant Attack"
  • placeholder text can be funny <3

Layout[edit | edit source]

  • When making a new page, you can load in a pre-made character page layout by clicking on "Character page template" or "Character page template (tabbed)". "Character page template (tabbed)" is used for characters whose appearance changes after the Chapter 6 timeskip

  • The "title" section in character infoboxes should be what their in-game dialogue box calls them (see: Mauve's page for example)

  • If editing an article in markup (via "Edit source"), leave 2 empty lines to seperate each section

  • Table of Contents on non-character pages can be put on the right to save space on the page, via tocright

  • guide on editing/formatting in tables here

  • When adding a main article/redirect under a section header, do this:
For how each group is described by Secretary, see: Endings
Main article: Provisional Government
:Main article: Provisional Government
[2 empty lines underneath, before continuing the text]

Files[edit | edit source]

  • try to add categories for Images when you upload them. you can put multiple categories in the same description box like so .

Uploaded Image Categories[edit | edit source]

subject of the uploaded image image purpose
replace NAME with character name non-image files
pics showcasing a location (with little to no ppl blocking the scene)

screenshots of discord/social media dev posts

replace # with chapter number

example categories:

stuff thats not in-game screenshots – wallpapers, logos, posters, texture files

add these sub-categories if its relevant:

Adding Images to an Article[edit | edit source]

  • citation screenshots (as as from discord) on the wiki should be licensed under "fair use" and not licensed under the game
  • when citing developer comments from discord, include a link to the message and a screenshot. use between 500-700px for the size. copy the text for the screenshot onto the image page as well, for example. Copyable code:

  • Copyable code for thumbnail images used throughout articles. Replace right with left for left alignment, fifth parameter ('middle' in example) is vertical alignment:

  • Copyable code for gallery:
<gallery>
FILENAME.jpeg|CAPTION
FILENAME.jpeg|CAPTION
FILENAME.jpeg|CAPTION
</gallery>

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • Sequential dialogue by the same character is kept in a continuous line, even if the in-game text was displayed in separate text boxes. This makes things easier to read, and also saves space.
    • Line breaks can be added if there is a "beat" in the dialogue, or a change in topic. Use your judgement for what flows best. Examples:
    • If the dialogue goes "..." "Placeholder quote here.", the quote can be:
"NAME: ... Placeholder quote here." with a space between the pause-ellipses and worded dialogue.
    • If the dialogue goes "....." "...Placeholder quote here.", only include the longer set of elipses:
      "NAME: .....Placeholder quote here."

  • Only include dialogue that builds towards/is relevant to the purpose of the quote. If there is a tangent, or the dialogue has a response that does not add to the point of the quote, you can leave it out, and put [...] there.
    • Dialogue quotes can be embedded in body paragraphs, if they are short (1-2 sentences)
    • For longer quotes, it is recommended to place the dialogue in a blockquote.

Blockquotes[edit | edit source]
  • Dialogue in blockquotes should include character names, bolded and in all-caps. Our wiki's blockquotes have a black background (due to some text colors being unreadable if on a light background), therefore all text inside blockquotes must use CharQuote.
  • If 2 quotes reinforce each other, they can be put in the same blockquote.
  • Include the chapter number the quote is from, after the CharQuote format. The format is (CH.5) – with a space before the parentheses, and no space between "CH." and the number.

KNOWER: There is no feeling worth being incinerated over. (CH.[Redacted])

WATCHER: Why do you get to choose who lives and who dies? (CH.5)

im considering changing this to using the "Cite" function and just having it display the chapter number on hover like that --Mynn (talk)

Colorized Text[edit | edit source]

  • Dialogue can be colorized using the CharQuote template.
    • Characters without unique text colors use white  #FFFFFF as their color hexcode.
    • Full sentence quotes in article should be colorized. Partial quotes (ie. a phrase) included in the article do not need to be colorized.

Hexcodes for characters with colored text:

Watcher Fixer BBF Healer Knower Principal Youngest Secretary Iris Blue Mother Father Mimi Orange Sister Green Sister Purple Sister Pink Sister
00EAFF 6DE75D FFA900 FFB3EE D158FF FF366B A8F4FF A8B7FF FFD300 B1F9FF C391DD E1FF8F FF7070 FFD7A7 CAFFBD EBBDFF FFBDED
  • If editing via the WYSIWYG[1] "Edit" mode:
  1. Go up top to the toolbar > Insert > Template > search CharQuote
  2. Look at the sidebar, tick β˜‘οΈ the boxes labelled 1 and 2. empty text input boxes labelled 1 and 2 will show up in the middle
  3. Put the #hexcode in 1
  4. Put the quote in 2 (you will have to bold the speaker label by putting 3 apostrophes around it like this )

  • If editing via "Edit source" mode – youll have to manually input the template parameter like this β‡’ KNOWER: There is no feeling worth being incinerated over.

Copyable markup to make things easier:

#00EAFF #FF366B #FFFFFF
#6DE75D #FFD300 #A8F4FF
#FFA900 #FFFFFF #CAFFBD
#FFB3EE #E1FF8F #FFD7A7
#D158FF #C391DD #FFBDED
#B1F9FF #FF7070 #EBBDFF
#A8B7FF #FFFFFF #EBBDFF

Quotes Page[edit | edit source]

  • Choose quotes that are especially poignant or memorable. Cut out tangents if nessecary.
  • In quotes that are conversations, the first speaker listed is the first person in the quote. Include speaker names in the dialogue.
  • For the sake of wiki editor mental well-being, no need to colorize the quotes

Example:

Speaker Quote
Occupant There is a star and a star and a dangerous gravity. There is a you and an us and a means to us. But there is a nothing and it is not you and nothing lasts forever. [...] There is a decoupling of substance and a dangerous gravity.
Watcher, Knower WATCHER: We're just echoes, repeating.

KNOWER: Even echoes are defined by the space in which they reverberate. At least to our ears, they change with each occurrence. They decay. No surface is perfect enough. Are we destined to reflect until we dissipate?

Principal unreliable narrator warning:

Nostalgia can be a dangerous thing

The following sequence of events were presented to Watcher through a communion. Since it is revealed later that these communions were compromised, the events within this sequence may not fully reflect the truth of what happened.

Non-canonical disclaimer:

Secretrary, what is this?

Though Knower quotes "each shapen sister her domain" to Watcher when talking about their roles, the term "Shapen Sisters" is not actually used in-game to refer to the group of sisters that lead their function. However, to clearly and concisely distinguish between those "sisters", and "sisters" as a communal term for clones, the wiki has opted to adapt the term "Shapen Sisters" as their faction designation.

⚠️ CAUTION! major spoilers ahead! (this goes above a spoiler)

Weave a brief personality descriptor into their significance in the story – feel free to use metaphors, as the intro should help paint a picture of who this is and jog people's memories. Keep it between 2-5 sentences. Avoid spoilers in this section unless it is pivotal to their role (and the spoiler doesn't affect any big reveal moments; use your best judgement)

Placeholder Shell[edit | edit source]

NAME: Quote that conveys Poster Shell's dynamic/feelings towards Placeholder Shell, ideally said by Poster Shell herself (unless more directly conveyed by someone else). It doesn't have to be the same quote on the vice versa page. (CH.1)

Description of the relationship – no need to detail surrounding plot events if it would already be covered elsewhere in the article.

PLACEHOLDER SHELL: Quote that showcases their new dynamic

POSTER SHELL: Possible response (CH.6)

If there is a major shift in their dynamic, you can include another quote to support that

Secretary[edit | edit source]

NAME: Quote that conveys Poster Shell's dynamic/feelings towards Secretary, ideally said by Poster Shell herself (unless more directly conveyed by someone else). It doesn't have to be the same quote on Secretary's page. (CH.1)

Link the name if its a character with their own page.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • POSTER SHELL: Hekki Grace! (CH.1)
  • SECRETARY: According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.
POSTER SHELL: ... black, Yellow, black, Yellow, ooh, black and yellow, yeah, let’s shake it up a little!
SECRETARY: The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. (CH.X)
