Chapter 8 covers the aftermath of Blue's bombing of the Provisional government waking up in the company of the renegade Shapen Sisters. It implies several communions between Watcher and Blue, and ends with Watcher's final communion, shared with her.

This Chapter makes many of the previous unexplained circumstances of the story more clear, and can be seen as the first "real" part of the story; everything before this was a communion between Watcher and Blue, a way for Watcher to show her what had happened.
