The Past

• The Occupants - Aliens who communicate through directly sharing memories. Their arrival on Earth brought a virus that wiped out most of humanity. They seek to "save" Earth's inhabitants by conducting a "lossless transfer" of all of Earth's memories, preserving everything as data.

• The 50 – A military organization, tasked with preserving humanity after its collapse to the Occupant disease.

• Ancient Sisters – The first 5 clones Iris made after she was left alone in The Orchard

The Orchard

All known society at the start of Chapter 1

• ALLMOTHER - A girl made god, and center of worship.

• The Shapen Sisters - The leaders of each function in the Orchard. They hope to one day be chosen to cross to the Other Side and be with the ALLMOTHER.

• The Shells - Other clones, who may one day graduate and become a Shapen Sister of their assigned color.

• Theatre Troupe - Guerilla theatre performers, who started a play reenacting Fixer's (alleged) betrayal, titled "SISTER: Unfix'd". They take some creative liberties with the reenactment.

The Provisional Government

The government created in the aftermath of ALLMOTHER's death.

• The Ministries - Ministers are chosen by Principal to lead different branches of government.

• The Red Guard - The law enforcement arm of the Provisional Government.

The Resistance

Meeting of the various resistance factions (ch.9)

Various groups resisting against Provisional Government, each with their own agenda.

• Exiled Sisters - Fugitive members of the original Shapen Sisters – Fixer, Bang Bang Fire, Healer, and Watcher. They reside on the train, which has been running non-stop for years.

• The Jiaos - Jiao-type clones who are fighting against their exploitation and oppression under Iris-type rule. Most of them reside and work in The Other Side.

• The Miscellaneous - Shells without a color-function, seen as "useless" in the eyes of the Provisional Government. Most never get to see the "upstairs" of The Orchard, and are forced to live in Old Town.

• Old Shells - Shells that are old. Some have been targeted by the Red Guard for "knowing too much" about the old times.

• Iris Fanatics - A religious group who still worship the ALLMOTHER, hoping she will be reborn again one day. Some have ended their lives via self-immolation, hoping to "speed up" the process of rebirth.

Other

• Capital Red/Mauve - A rogue shell with her own agenda. She is a special police officer in the Red Guard, but has no loyalties to them. She assisted the resistance in blowing up the Provisional Government, but only for her own accelerationist benefit.
