Familiars
The Familiars refers to the floating companions seen with Watcher and Principal. They act as a conduit for the shapen sisters to access the ALLMOTHER's memories, and aid with traversal as well as answering questions and providing context for the memories they see. Outside of communions, they can also act in a role similar to a digital assistant, providing a list of tasks, maps, and navigation waypoints.

The Familiars are a familiar sight to the clone society, being seen with Principal and presumably the current Watcher. Despite this, not much is known about them. When asked by Bartender where they come from, Watcher simply states Secretary has "always been there" and Secretary himself is unable to answer, lacking the knowledge himself.

During Knower's communion, it is revealed that the three Familiars were given to Iris by an Occupant as part of a trade. Later on, after recovering his memory, Secretary will confirm that they are, in fact, Occupants.
Source states that the three Familiars were created as a tool for Iris:
SOURCE: A medium for her to keep everything. A bridge for her to better understand us. And for us to better understand her.
There is some evidence to suggest that two Familiars were left with Youngest/Principal in the Orchard, while the yellow Famliar remained with Iris. Considering that Source was communing with Iris until the end, it stands to reason that she still possessed at least one Familiar. Furthermore, in the scene showing Youngest in exile, both Vice and Secretary can be seen, but not the yellow Familiar - This Familiar is first shown (outside of flashbacks with Iris) after the creation of Jiao Prime, after Iris's death.

Secretary is the name of the blue Familiar who accompanies Watcher. Secretary has a young, child-like male voice. He is essential to the Watcher's duties by allowing them to relive the memories of the ALLMOTHER, often from the perspective of Iris herself. In addition, Secretary accompanies Watcher throughout her daily life and can answer questions, offer advice, as well as provide company to Watcher.
Vice[edit | edit source]
Vice is the name of the red Familiar who accompanies Principal. Vice speaks with a deeper, adult male voice. Not much is known about Vice. (TK: more to add)
Vice plays the role of a narrator during the play seen in Chapter 6. After the bombing where Principal is injured, Vice remains by her side and watches over her in her office. It is not known what becomes of them after Chapter 10, but it is likely that they were also merged with Source and left with Secretary in the canon endings.
Yellow Familiar[edit | edit source]
There is a third, unnamed Familiar who is first depicted, but not seen as part of the exchange during Knower's communion. The yellow Familiar can be seen during flashbacks with Iris in Chapter 7 and beyond. Following the time skip, they accompany Jiao-Prime. We never hear this Familiar speak, and the least is known about this one.
This Familiar appears to have stayed with Iris when she left for the other side, leaving Vice and Secretary with Youngest in the Orchard. Uniquely, the yellow Familiar has a direct link to Source, and is instrumental for being able to summon them.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Their similarity to Navi from the Legend of Zelda series (in both appearance and function) is lampshaded in Chapter 6, with Secretary repeating Navi's notorious catchphrrase "Hey! Listen!".
They also look way to similar to Ghosts from Destiny, which paired with the frequent usage of the word "Shell" will endless confuse CHSN and make them wonder why secretary doesn't just revive his guardian, is he stupid??
