School
The unnamed highschool attended by Iris and Jiao, along with several unknown students. Despite the school being in Vancouver, Canada, the layout and structure of the school is rather reminiscent of Asian schools.
Despite many concerns about the spread of a viral disease, the school did not go into lockdown and still went ahead with holding a graduation dance in 2047. The dance became a superspreader event where every student fell sick from the disease and died – every student but one, Iris.
The school was revisted in the future, some year after 2078, by a small team of the Pacific 50. Iris had convinced The 50 to bring her to the school by lying to Johnson The 50 about investigating a "theory about socialized immunity". In actuality, Iris planned to visit the school to light funerary candles for Jiao, on the rooftop of the school. This trip is later the setting of Watcher's first communion, in Chapter 1.
Layout[edit | edit source]
The school has two wings of classrooms, which are connected in the centre on the ground floor (forming an H-shape), and bridged on the south end on the second floor (forming a U-shape). Different parts of the school are inaccessible in the two time slices Watcher can access, meaning that to explore the school fully, she will need to traverse both timezones in order to access all the rooms. A few classrooms are inaccessible in both time periods.

History[edit | edit source]
Nostalgia can be a dangerous thing
The following sequence of events were presented to Watcher through a communion. Since it is revealed later that these communions were compromised, the events within this sequence may not fully reflect the truth of what happened.
The school had a student government, several iterations of which invested heavily into a statue of a fox. The significance and purpose of this statue has been forgotten over the years. Whether to spend more money on trying to finish the statue was a point of contention within the student government.
Not much is known about the school culture, however immigrants were uncommon enough that when Jiao transferred to the school, she was bullied by the other students, even being spat on. As the Occupant's disease began to spread in Canada, some started accusing Asian people of spreading the disease, leading to Iris' old friends ostracizing her and Jiao.
During the early days of the outbreak in 2047, the school put up posters warning students of disease symptoms, and urged students who were feeling ill to stay home. One student – who posted a viral video of an Occupant online – claimed to have met with the Occupant, and led a small congregation of students believing that the Occupants would free them from the burdens of society. The school quarantined these students to the rooftop, to minimise interaction with the rest of the student body.
Despite warnings and calls to cancel the school dance, the event in June was not cancelled. This became a super-spreader event where every student at the dance fell sick (except one)).
Sometime after this, it appears that the school was used by survivors, and an inventory of rations can be seen on the blackboards of one of the classroom. Several students were buried in the courtyard outside the gymnasium, and a memorial to Jiao was put on the rooftop.
A couple decades later, The 50 visited the school in search for clues around socialised immunity. The school maintained a higher than normal concentration of the virus. In the cafeteria, a pigeon raised by one of the students was still alive and had grown to massive proportions.
